SG Freight
The Supply Chain Africa division delivers an end-to-end supply chain solution through the integration of its multiple business units. Its services include supply chain optimisation, consulting, technology, procurement, third-party distribution, transport, multi-temperature controlled product distribution, bulk raw material transportation, warehousing, inbound and outbound freight forwarding, customs clearing, import and export consolidation, international airfreight services and bonded cross-border transport.
The Freight business is well positioned to supply a modern fleet, enabled by technology and expertise to move cargo safely, timeously and cost effectively across South Africa and into neighbouring countries. Our national network of sites allows us to store and efficiently distribute goods to numerous locations. The fleet consists primarily of tautliners, and our vehicle age is kept low through a regular fleet replacement programme.
SG Freight is committed to ensuring that effective HSE practices are deployed throughout its business, and currently holds the following accreditations:
- SQAS (Sasol Safety and Quality Approval) since 2012

SG Freight combines operational delivery excellence with the use of leading-edge technology and ongoing innovation to create dynamic supply chain solutions for its customers. Our complete solution, Freight Online, has been developed over a number of years by SGIT, customised to include all facets of order, transportation and delivery visibility. Freight Online is a best of breed combination of in-house technology and software using a web-based platform to provide transport order fulfilment visibility at the best cost to deliver, using internal and outsourced vehicles in both 3PL and 4PL environments.
The Freight business is made up of four core pillars consisting of:
Long Distance
Provides a national primary haulage service across the country with deliveries also being made into Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique. In excess of 80% of all tonnage moved is through long-term contracts across a blue-chip customer base. A portion of the fleet are accredited to transport hazardous goods, with drivers trained to the highest levels of safety in line with our accreditations. Market sectors include paper and pulp, packaging, white goods, building materials, paints, packaged lubricants, plastics and FMCG goods.
Dedicated Contracts
Involves providing dedicated equipment to cover a range of activities across industries as diverse as raw timber, automotive parts, paper, pulp and alcoholic beverages. It is within our dedicated contracts pillar that specialised equipment is introduced to enhance profitability and deliver a superior competitive advantage to our clients.
4PL
Entails sourcing and securing resources, capabilities and technologies to provide integrated supply chain solutions. From inbound logistics to outbound distribution, we seek to drive efficiencies that enhance profitability and competitive advantage. This 4PL pillar is supported by our Long-Distance fleet, ensuring a seamless offering, backed by a sizeable fleet to handle peaks throughout the year.
Warehouse & Distribution
Our dedicated or shared warehouse services are backed by advanced technology systems and managed by skilled employees. Distribution from warehouses to various locations is seamlessly integrated into our logistics service offerings.
